Take a look behind the scenes of our collaboration with Marie Miller for the design of her latest album, The Way of Love. The album cover, like the songs within, is inspired by the writing of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, portrayed visually through hand lettering, a soft rose color, and contemplative, hopeful photography.
Marie Miller is a talented folk/pop singer/songwriter based in Virginia. Her music has a beautiful mission to convey God's love for us, and her latest album release certainly does just that. The Way of Love is a poetic collection of songs inspired by the life and writings of St. Thérèse of Lisieux.
The Way of Love Album Cover Design / Marie Miller
Since so much of Marie's album is inspired by the writings of Saint Thérèse, it was fitting that the lettering on the cover should be inspired by her handwriting. I analyzed photographs of letters and journal entries that Saint Thérèse wrote by hand, and then emulated the forms, curves, and strokes for the lettering on the album cover design. While the letterforms were inspired by Saint Thérèse's handwriting, they are not an exact replica—the lettering style for Marie's album cover has its own unique look and feel, giving the album a particular aesthetic that blends Marie's spiritual influences with her own musical style.
